Seems that Ms. Patterson’s attorney has filed a motion in the ongoing case that, if the Judge agrees, would call for the school board members, all five of them, to come before the Judge in the case. He seems to think that since their attorney sent out paperwork related to the appeal of the case, before they voted on it in public, that they are in violation of the Judge’s July 27, 2010 ruling. This violation could have them placed in Contempt of Court AND removed from office if the Judge agrees.

If you don’t believe me, check out the document here on the Court’s website. Check out the last paragraph on page 3 and the first on page 4. You see, an elected body, such a school board, cannot initiate legal action without having first voted on it in public. That would be a violation of the Sunshine Laws.

Sound familiar? It should since this is why we are here in the first place. They were told on July 27th to stick to the rules but they do not seem to have understood that ruling. If they are willing to so flagrantly violate a judge’s order, what other laws could they be breaking? ANYTHING that they discussed or decided in an illegal session can be overturned. ANYTHING… Kind of makes you think about the decisions that have been made in the past couple of years, doesn’t it?

Time will tell if the judicial system will really remove all of them. Certain members haven’t been around for very long and cannot be blamed for the long term bad behavior. And others, whom I have disparaged here in the past, seem to have regained their sense of what is right and good for the community. I don’t think removing them all will be good for the district, but some seem to have come to believe that the laws do not apply to them. We do not need elected officials with that mindset in our community. Those people need to go, sooner rather than later.

We can only hope that the Judge agrees.

Interesting article from the AP about Illinois politics today: “2 governors, 2 crooks: What’s wrong with Illinois?” Given our current political climate, one has to ask if the Falls has the same problem.

There were three quotes from the article that are particularly interesting in regards to our local political situation:

“Illinois (read: Cuyahoga Falls’) voters put them in office despite serious questions about their honesty.”

“Corruption and lack of ethics, in my opinion, isn’t the No. 1 problem. It’s apathy.”

“…too many Illinois (read: Cuyahoga Falls’) voters and politicians simply accept a certain level of corruption.”

Sadly, you can apply all three to our current situation. If you aren’t sure of that yet, just wait…

The School Board appealing the ruling in the Patterson case shows one of two things:

The insurance company is willing to waste more money on this joke and that’s why insurance is so outrageously expensive anymore, or

The Board is paying for this round and that means they’re wasting our tax dollars to pursue a vendetta rather than to educate our children.

Either way, it’s just more ugliness from these people. And unfortunately, someone who I thought would be a positive addition to the Board and would pursue fiscal responsibility is willing to waste time and money on pettiness.

This just makes our whole community look foolish and small. Sad…

I know that I’ve said negative things at times about the Falls Schools, but my daughter did get a good education in them. And they prepared her for bigger and better things as she’s now a UofA graduate with degrees in Organizational Communications and Public Relations. She’s even considering continuing on for a Masters Degree.
Chip and I are very proud of her!

This isn’t really my tale to tell, but you should check out Kellie Patterson’s site for the latest on her suit against the BOE. And do follow her link to the Summit County Court Magistrate’s decision in her Sunshine Law case against the Cuyahoga Falls City School Board.

And to think that 2 of the guilty parties had a higher vote than she did in the last election. I would have to think that any reasonable court would see that as a result of what was hidden from the public and the skewed truth that the community was fed. It’s really a shame that trying to expose the truth can be treated as evil lies while the true evil lies are fed to the public as the truth.

Kellie is to be commended for risking her reputation and position in the community to see that the community does indeed get the transparency that they deserve. I for one am thankful that she was looking out for our best interests when our other elected officials were not.
